When I was a graduate student, my professor, Dr. Anthony Holbrook, would often comment about the awesome intellect possessed by Grant Fairbanks. The expression on his face when he spoke about his professor and co-author was one of profound admiration. I too have become an ardent admirer of Grant Fairbanks. He was truly a man before his time. His "Voice and Articulation Drillbook" is a phonetic masterpiece that every SLP clinician should own to remind him/her why we seek to do what we do.
This is an excellent book which I had acquired many years ago. It was used in the speech therapy department at the university I attended. It was given to me by a friend. I have used it on and off over the years. I would consider this a classic in its field. Great book.
Used it in a college course a million years ago and still using it as a reference. I actually give it as a gift to new grads and Speech Language Pathology friends

The book itself is great - in fine condition. But it SMELLS!!! Wish I had known that ahead of time.
I returned this book because it was old and the pages were yellow. Also, it smelled like it had been stored in a library for 50 years!
As a veteran speech therapist, I cant think of a more useful book. Although I've used it for ear training and production of speech sounds and relied on another source for voice (Daniel Boone), Fairbanks is always handy. Only problem - high vocabulary items - can be fixed very easily.
A very useful book for anyone interested in linguistics, acting, or for trying to overcome an accent. Also discusses how meaning is conveyed through pitch and inflection, and voice quality.
