Book 2 of the Sasha Urban series certainly lives up to the promise of the first book. Sasha is still mistrustful of her powers, especially as they work very unpredictably, how else could you explain all the near misses she had lately without seeing them coming? By day she continues to work as a financial analyst for her mentor Nero, which puts her under a lot of pressure as he saddles her with more work than she can reasonably handle.I loved the strands of Russian folklore/mythology as Sasha tries to find out about her past and who her parents were and the role her pet chinchilla/domovoi plays. At one point she seeks help from Baba Yaga (who is an ambiguous figure at best) which almost turns decidedly unpleasant for her if she didn’t have protection from an unexpected source. We are also left dangling about Sasha’s love interest(s), if you could call them such, as it is mostly fantasizing on her part (about kissing her boss and mentor Nero), only to find that things concerning her boss are quite different in reality than her imagination. Damian (who is a strong seer) seems to believe that Sasha will end up with him, but she doesn’t share that vision. Add an unearthly attractive incubus/succubus to the mix and you would expect more than actually happens. This would also be one of my points of criticism: not only does she not get anywhere with the guys that are after her (ok, she does end up killing one of them), but at the end of the book she is farther away from a romantic connection than before. And this is not only true of her “love lifeâ€, but she also isn’t any closer to learning anything about her origins or getting a handle on her powers. So while we learn more about the different Cognizant and the paranormal world there seems to be very little progress in the story overall which left me kind of frustrated and wanting to get my hands on the next book in the series now.To end on a positive note: I really liked the humor in the book, mostly due to Sasha’s musings and her observations about the world around and her snarky comments and the fact that she approaches all the supernatural stuff very prosaically (with a little reliance on her “magician†skills). So 4 ½ stars with the hope that there will be some more forward movement in the next installment, Reluctant Psychic.
I absolutely loved this book!! I noticed I was reading it super slowly, I just didn’t want it to end. Sasha is determined to learn about her past as well as take charge of her current life. She continues to be surprised and overworked by her boss, no matter how good his intentions may be. With her limited abilities she continues to be stumped in the search for who she is and she’ll go to extreme lengths to get even a small clue of who her parents are. Also as with the first book, Sasha continues to have close calls in her mortality. I’m so anxious to see who Sasha will end up with, I find myself hoping for her super broody boss. If you enjoyed the first book, you’ll definitely love this second installment. I’m sitting on pins and needles awaiting the third book, and the second JUST went live.Dima is such a great writer, and I love how he weaves romance into his stories. I typically like romance novels, but his books always have enough to keep me coming back, but it’s not done in a way, that a non romance lover would be uncomfortable or unhappy with it. This story line flows easily and is a great read with well developed characters in a creative setting. A ten star book if possible.
Enjoyed Sasha's story. Really love Fluffster. This is book 2 in a continuing story. So would recommend starting with book 1 and being prepared to continue in the series. This book had some magic tricks in it but not to the same extent as the first one. This book had more world building as Sasha learns of the cognizant world. There are many unresolved storylines. I expect this when reading a series. Had both the kindle version and Audible. I liked the narration but at times the narrator came across as too old for the character of Sasha.
Sasha has problem the largest one that bpthers her is that there never seems to be enough time.Ariel her best friend and roomate serms to be having problems. Felix her other friend and roommate is caught in an emotional tangle. He wants to have a steady girlfriend he cared for and who cares for him.If only that were all. As soon as she sticks her head out of the house somebody tried to kill her. Whats a girl to do?
I loved reading this book, which is the second of the Sasha Urban series. It was full of interesting scenarios; and some new characters added to the magical, mystical shiver. There was lots of action, with Sasha learning about her powers and becoming ever more adept at dodging trouble. I can't wait to read the final Sasha book to see how everything shakes out. Oh, and I want my own Domovoi!
The story was interesting, but I won’t be reading more by this author because of the eroticism. If you like eroticism, you will probably like this book.
I love this series, so different than other paranormal stories with its unique world and fascinating characters. I can't wait to find out what's next in store for Sasha, Ariel and Felix and of course, Fluffster!
Sasha is sarcastically funny, witty and smart. Her journey into the unknown world continues to thrill and entertain. A must for paranormal and science fiction/fantasy enthusiasts.
