About the Author

A native of Joliet, Illinois, John Ferak returned to his roots in 2017 to become the editor/reporter for the Joliet Patch. He previously spent five years with the Wisconsin Investigative Team for USA TODAY NETWORK and nine years in Nebraska at the Omaha World-Herald newspaper. He is an authority on wrongful arrest and conviction cases. His 2016 book for WildBlue Press, FAILURE OF JUSTICE, chronicled the nation's largest wrongful conviction case. His first book, BLOODY LIES told the story about a CSI director who went to prison for planting blood in high-profile Nebraska murder cases. Ferak's fifth true-crime book, WRECKING CREW: Demolishing The Case Against Steven Avery, is being published through Colorado-based WildBlue Press on November 20, 2018.

Just finished the book. Having followed the case, read all that is publicly available, this book really puts it all together well with all sorts of detail that will make your skin crawl. There are monsters in Wisconsin law enforcement and there are LOTS of them. Fact after fact after fact presented in this book. Wiegert, Fassbender, Kratz, and so many other slimy things in Wisconsin. May God bless Kathleen Zellner and all those in the fight to free Brendan Dassey and Steven Avery. May God forgive all who are complicit in the framing of Steven and those who participated in the coercion of Brendan Dassey.

Ferak does an excellent job of unraveling the complexities of this case and doesn't hold back on the details while still holding your attention. This is a great read for anyone, whether you're someone who has advanced knowledge of the case from all of the available case files online, or you've just watched Making a Murderer and you want answers. This is both a captivating and heartbreaking story, and the conclusions drawn from this book and attorney Kathleen Zellner are both compelling and aggravating. The absolute failure of justice and the level of corruption in Wisconsin is sickening. The truth will prevail and expose all involved. Tick Tock, Manitowoc. Tick Tock.

There is official police corruption in Manitowoc county Wisconsin that contributed to the convictions of Stephen Avery and Brendan Dassey and the failure to find the murderer of Teresa Halbach. Former Wisconsin AG Brad Schimel was complicit in the cover-up of Manitowoc county police corruption to the point of taking the very unusual step of requesting an En Banc review from the Seventh Circuit Appeals court. Josh Kaul needs to initiate a criminal review of Manitowoc county police officials. The review needs to include the relation between Schimel and the sexual pervert Ken Kratz.And everyone who wants the full background information on the Netflix series Making a Murderer should read this book.

Loved how Ferak gives us a glimpse into the professional life of Teresa that wasn't shown during trial. It showed that her line of work wasn't always safe and sometimes risky.Also thoroughly enjoyed how Ferak does a good job laying out the work of Manitowoc Officers such as Bushman, Colborn, Petersen, Lenk, Jost in not only the Avery case but the Ricky H case.Well worth the read and does a great job extending on the information presented in Making a Murderer 2 with many issues beyond what was raised in the series.

Freak does a brilliant job of breaking down the case or shall I say lack of a case against Avery. The background of corruption that runs deep in Manitowoc LE is chilling. He hits on all the players and their respective roles in Avery’s framing. The biggest OMG for me is the detailed breakdown of Creepy Kratz. It’s a great detailed explanation of Kathleen Zellner’s new information as she attempts to right this grievous miscarriage of justice.

I loved the book and have missed JF's local reporting from the area.The book is an in depth look into-the case both pre and post KZ-MCSD and it's history of corruption-scorching profiles on KK and ST-the best expert opinions on the state's evidence and case against SA. Easy read, took me one day.Shining a bright light in a dark place and case.Job well done.

The best part about this book is how FACTUAL it is. I’ve read up on the case. More than what the documentary shows. Reading the case files, the testimonies, and now this, has confirmed (my opinion) that these two men in jail are innocent.This book is a must read for anyone interested in the Steven Avery case.I hope justice comes soon.

I've never read such a profound book that illustrates deep seeded corruption in a government organization. This book is factual as the author cites his many sources. It's a very easy read and very enlightening. A+++++++
